MBBS Overseas
The pursuit of medicine and health sciences, known as MBBS, has witnessed a significant surge in interest among India’s youth. Presently, there has been a notable increase in the number of students opting to study MBBS abroad compared to previous years. This trend can be attributed to the limited availability of government seats and the exorbitant tuition fees charged by private medical colleges in
India.
According to the Medical Council of India (MCI), in 2022, a total of 542 government and private colleges offered 79,855 seats to NEET-qualified students. However, this number is a fraction of the total candidates appearing for NEET each year, which crossed 18 lakhs in 2022. Consequently, many students who fail to secure seats in India turn to private medical institutions abroad, where they can pursue their dreams of becoming doctors.
Studying MBBS, or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, demands exceptional patience, hard work, and focus. The allure of studying MBBS abroad lies in the state-of-the-art medical universities, exceptional amenities, and world-class faculty. This experience not only provides students with
international exposure but also offers them a chance to practice medicine in a foreign land, creating a lifelong cherished holistic experience.
Countries like Germany, the UK, Russia, and Canada offer medical programs at reasonable costs, making them attractive options for Indian students. Among these choices, Georgia has emerged as a popular destination for Indian medical students due to its safety and affordability. Institutes such as New Vision University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli University, European University, and Tbilisi State Medical University have seen a surge in Indian enrollments.
Other prominent reasons include:
Cost-Effectiveness: Several countries in Eastern Europe and Asia, including China, Georgia, and the Philippines, offer MBBS programs at less than $10,000, making them more affordable compared to the
UK and USA.
Enhanced Knowledge: Studying abroad exposes you to different medical practices and research areas, enhancing your understanding and improving your market value as a healthcare professional.
Quality Education: Many countries offer high-standard medical programs with excellent faculty and facilities, providing a substantial learning experience. Exposure to diverse clinical settings can also enhance your medical skills.
Networking Opportunities: Pursuing higher education abroad allows you to meet and connect with professionals from various backgrounds, helping you build a strong professional network. Candidates aspiring to pursue MBBS abroad must meet the following criteria:
